Intersystem Controls
Enhancing brand identity through print design, and digital asset creation.
Overview
Across 4 months with Intersystem Controls, I had the privilege to work on a mix of print design, advertising design, and some UI design.
In the first half of my co-op term, I worked on landing screens for smart home interfaces. Later in the term, I focused on optimizing Intersystem Controls Wordpress website and increasing exposure through social media posts.
The final outcome of the projects were a multitude of deliverables across different mediums, allowing for a breadth of new skills to be developed.
Objective
To maintain and expand Intersytem Controls current branding onto different medias.
Results

What I learned
Be a champion of my own work
As the sole designer, I had the freedom and independence of taking initiatives and proposing new projects. However, having worked in environments where I always had a design mentor to assign feedback, I had to adapt to trusting my own skills and expertise as the sole designer at the company. I quickly adpated to communicating my design decisions to my coworkers who did not come from a design background. I came to understand that their questioning of what I have done was a process of understanding, and not a test of my abilities. If I saw that the design was the best possible solution, I had to come the sole champion of my work since I was in the lead role.
What I Would Do Differently
Focus on what I really want to do
I loved the flexibility to work on different projects during this co-op. However, it was until the end of the co-op that I realized my true passion, which is is more creative design. I previously believed I wanted to pursue a career in User Interface. While I am capable of doing User Interface work, I found more fullfillment in doing creative design work. While I was unable to realize this until the end the co-op, I can now set foot into my next role more focused on what I enjoy to do and able to do well in. I am thankful for this experience to realize what I want to pursue in the future.
Special Thanks
Thank you for being a lovely team
I would have to give appreciation to Chris Carmichael, Arnaud Marguerite, Nikita Pelipenko, and Alan da Silva for being the best coworkers I could work with. They made my first co-op less intimidating with their friendly energy that fostered a positive work environment.
